What are plenum and how / why do you need ti clean them?

It's the void below the windscreen, best way for a first time clean is pop the wipers off, remove the scuttle panel & if you look down by the ECU (Engine Control Unit) & pollen filter on the N/S you'll see a rubber tube, make sure this is clear otherwise water builds up & can damage the ECU (more likely on a diesel) & also leak into the car via the pollen filter.
There is another just below the brake servo which is not so easy to access, though it can be done from under the car.
