World Cup madness by Raistlin

I was chairing a burglary trial for two defendants yesterday. They had both previously pleaded not guilty.

Their advocate requested a short adjournment prior to the start of the trial and fifteen minutes later was able to inform the Bench that the two defendants would plead guilty.

The case having been completed and the defendants sentenced, we enquired of the defence advocate the reason for the sudden change of heart.

Apparently, the likelihood of a custodial sentence being vanishingly small, they decided to plead guilty in the morning so they could be at the pub to watch the England game in the afternoon.

Priorities?
