V6 cam cover gaskets - parts supply problem? by salop75

salop75
My 75 2.5 has recently developed a leak around the rear cam cover gasket. My local ex-rover dealer says the rear cover and gasket isn't available and is on back order. I notice rimmerbros say the same about the part.

Does anyone know if this is recent issue, or where i might find the parts i need?

Thanks,

John

Hi Mick, if i read the rimmerbros site correctly, its "Cover assembly-camshaft carrier - RH - Genuine MG Rover
Part No.: LDR104270". Two other parts are mentioned, LDR104460 and LDR104552, and if i'm honest i'm not really sure what the difference between the parts is.

SAP = database/stock control sofware. You can order the part through any Xpart distributor.

Go here. http://www.xpart.com/RVE7d799b75a5ca42b ... 3bf,,.aspx aqnd click on Parts Service and Repair bottom right of the page to locate a dealer near you.
You may get the same result as checking Rimmers but certainly worth a try or you can call Desford phone number on the page above.

Hi Mick,

Thanks for the info. Having checked with the local dealer, the part should be LDR104522 not LDR104270.

Liz at Xpart tells me there is one LDR104270 left in the country on their system. No LDR104522. No supplier for the parts, so unlikely to be further stock.

Which to be honest is quite a concern as leaking gaskets on the V6 isn't unusual. Does this mean more cars off the road because of simple faults.

So i guess i should really ask, what other options do i have? Can a cover and gasket be taken off a scrapped car?

Cheers,

http://www.ramgaskets.com/gasket/gasket ... ssic-cars/ or buy the correct material and make your own.
There is also gasket repair material. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GASKET-SEALAN ... 0534894371 I'd take advice on this sort of thing though!

I would be looking at something like this as a back up plan :)

Have you tried a Land Rover Dealer?

Hi, i did check a land rover dealer source and then went back and checked Rimmers again, realised that the garage had ordered the wrong part. There is a full gasket set that includes the rocker covers and they are in short supply, but also the the gaskets are available separately, so i was able to order the right parts.

However it turns out after the garage did the fix work, that it wasnt as fixed as first thought, and on a long run the oil leak returned and following oil starvation(no low oil pressure light ever) the engine is now on its last death rattles. Seems a common end for these V6 75s.

Oh crap. Will the garage not cough up for repair/replacement? If they said they'd fixed and patently they haven't, surely the onus is on them?

Best of luck.
