I was talking to a neighbour today who works for the local authority.
It seems that they recently got permission (maybe planning permission, I don't know) to put three of those retractable bollards at the entrance to an alley along which is a premises which stores steel and copper cables, lightning conductor, bus-bar etc.
They have been burgled regularly just recently for the value of the metal and because it is easy to back a truck down the alley and out of sight.
The bollards were installed to prevent vehicular access outside of office hours.
A few days ago, the bollards were stolen. Well... it's metal innit?
