I am running safari version 6.0.5 and it is running slower than firefox. I have done all the latest updates. The OS is 10.7.5

I am thinking do I need to upgrade the OS. Would it make safari run faster and smoother? Please advise

Try this:-
Menu Bar/Safari/Reset Safari......... Tick all the boxes and click Reset.

From the Finder:-
Menu Bar/Hold down option (alt) key/Go/Library.......... In the resultant window navigate to Caches/com.apple.Safari........... Move files Cache.db Cache.db-shm and Cache.db-wal to Trash.

Quit Safari........ Empty Trash......... Open Safari.

Just with an idle moment or two, I downloaded Safari for Windows. My god it's fast :D

I normally use Waterfox but I've been having slowdown and freeze problems with it recently. I think I'll have a further play with Safari and might promote it to number one browser.

Further to this. Although I select the "Keep me logged in" type tick boxes on my usual haunts, each time I close Safari down, it forgets my login details next time I use it.

Any ideas please?

If you have "Private Browsing" selected. It will forget "keep me logged in". Otherwise it should behave itself as expected.
