I think traction control would be a worthwhile addition to VeeKay this year.

I haven't a clue where to start however, or indeed whether it is possible.

Any ideas please?

The main thing will be the new ABS (Antilock Braking System) modulator that supports traction. After that, a bit of wiring for the switch, and some magic recoding with the T4 (Testbook version 4.Computer Diagnostic System), writing a new ZCS string. You may even be lucky and have the traction switch wiring fitted!

The wiring is fitted Duncan :)

Presumably, a modulator could be had from a scrapped car?

Everything is possible with a bit of perseverance. I was always told that traction is terrible and not to have it although it is still on my list of things to put on my car if I get one though.

At £800 for a new one from Rimmers, It would have to be a 2nd Hand one :)

Would it have to be from a Diesel Car or does the Modulator not matter? Is there a difference between Traction and Non Traction ABS Modulators?

Does it have to be from a Diesel Car or can it be either? I assume it can be either, but need to make sure - I will pop the question to some of my new found "Breaker" Friends at work ;)

I'm not sure either but it's unexplored territory as far as I'm concerned Chris :(

@Carl - thanks mate - anything you can find out would be helpful :)

From what I recall, speaking to Les @ SMC, it comes down to the two letters, I cannot remember all of them. Mine has "MK" Stamped on it and I think I can fit any as long as it has "MK" as a straight swap. The Traction Version is stamped different, but I do not know what letters are on there.

I just wanted to be sure, as I spoke to a Chap who is going to let me know next week what Rover cars he picked up, mostly because he is collecting two Tourers for definite, with those being the harder car to find some bits for and myself having a Tourer, but I will help as much as I can to source a Traction ABS (If succesful Paul I may have a go myself :) )

Have just had a look at Rimmer Brothers info. It makes sense they are the same for both engines without traction, but different when traction is fitted. On the V6 the engine is controlled partly by an actuator operating an extra flap in the throttle. On the diesel it's not since there is no throttle and it's drive by wire (egas) so it's done over CAN (Bus Controller Area Network). The diesel hardware is probably identical to the none traction ones but with different software. The petrol one has to drive the extra actuator so may have extra electronics, though I expect again it's only a software thing.

OK,

It seems a second hand ABS actuator will cost between £25 and £30, thanks to Carl's suggested contact - cheers mate :)

Only problem is... rocking horse poo would be a lot easier to find :(

So, cost not a problem... locating one is.

If anybody spots one please let me know :)

The three "Stamps" I mentioned in my earlier post are:

MK - Non Traction
ML - Petrol with Traction
MN - Diesel with Traction

So you will need one with "MN" Stamped on it Paul :)
