Rattly Cat . . . by Tourerfogey

Hi Guys,

I've been putting up with what I thought was the exhaust pipe rattling against the underside of the car (1.8 75 Tourer) for the past month or so.

However, upon investigation today it would appear the exhaust isn't actually banging against the underside of the car but the loud metallic rattling is coming from inside the cat - sounds like the cats insides are completely shot!

My questions are:

1) Is it usual for cats to break up and make this noise - i.e. is my diagnosis likely to be correct?

2) Where's the best place to get a replacement - I gather the pipes on these cars are availaible in front, intermediate and rear repair sections?

3) Presumably this part of the exhaust, being at the front, will be the same for the 1.8 Tourer as the Saloon part?

Thanks

TF. :)

1. Usual no, but it does happen from what I've heard. Physical damage, or overheating can cause this.

2. Not sure.

3. I'd expect so, as you do.

For 2 and 3 Rimmerbros have the catalogue online, or wait for someone to drop in who has one handy.
