Just been perusing an accessories list from 1960 for the MkII Ford Consul, Zephyr and Zodiac.

Took the inflation rates for each year from 1960 and started with £1 and increased it each year by the rate of inflation. This produced the fact that £1 in 1960 is now equivalent to £19.2613 now.

For the younger viewers who may not have known the delights of £sd I have converted to decimal.

Some items show no purchase tax. These are kits so do not include fitting.

How about the cost of the radios that would have been Long and Medium wave.

Hope it comes out formatted.

Item....................Cost....Tax.....Total 1960.......Total 2015
Radio...................£13.73..£4.64...£18.38...........£353.93
Push button radio.......£22.76..£7.69...£30.45...........£586.51
Aerial...................£1.98..£0.00....£1.98............£38.04
Heater..................£12.85..£0.00...£12.85...........£247.51
Over-rider kit...........£6.13..£0.00....£6.13...........£117.98
Reversing lamp kit.......£3.00..£0.00....£3.00............£57.78
Dual Windtone horn kit...£3.40..£0.00....£3.40............£65.49
Fog lamp kit (1).........£4.88..£0.00....£4.88............£93.90

Planning is an unnatural process, much better to just get on with things, that way failure comes as a complete surprise instead of being preceeded by a period of worry and doubt

Thought I had cracked formatting it and tried - perhaps easier to read now.

As to purchase tax, perhaps radios were classed as luxuries - after all, you had the choice of listening to the BBC Home, Light and Third programmes, eat you hearts out.
