Olympic Torch - Yes / No by PaulT (Page 1 of 2)

Will admit I thought it was quite pleasant, escpecially being tirangular and not round or square.

Apparently there are 8000 holes in it to represent the number of athletes.
Paul

That apart Mrs Lincoln, did you enjoy the play

In my view, the whole olympic thing is a giant waste of money that could be better spent elsewhere.

Then, that idiot Coe saying that there is no cost to the tax payer. What planet is he on?

Sorry, I know I'm in the minority but there you go.

Agree with the statement what a waste of public money.
Torch thing crap to, most probably got so many holes in it cause they couldn't make a decent proper one.

I agree with you - the Olympics was something that the UK did not need. Be fascinated to know the logic employed in the software that allocated tickets!

The thought of ripping down the main stadium, as proposed in the past, seemed absolutely absurd.

I can also understand the feelings of those east Londoners who missed out on tickets feeling very aggrieved. I avoid London like the plague but can imagine the disruption through the building works.

I found this quote quite amusing. :D

Times columnist Carol Midgeley defended the design: "I think it's rather elegant, actually especially as it's shaped like a giant spliff." :scared:

Now I know how Rover got it's "old codger" reputation. The design looks smart and modern. The holes represent the 8000 torch bearers. Having spent 3 weeks in Barcelona for the Olympics, it's a great event.

I thought the holes were number of athletes/competitors taking part?
It really though just represents the state of the UK economy, full of holes.

Apparently some of the holes aren't round - they represent the athletes on drugs.

Actually, the last time I saw anything like the Olympic Torch, Lady GaGa was wearing two of them :D

Although massive commercialism has set in, the ideals behind it, at least for the athletes, has not really changed since 1924. I know, because my wife competed in 1984 (LA) was a coach in 1988 (Seoul) and we were spectators in 1992 (Barcelona)

I'll second that - a great honour to represent ones country and of course all the hard work to get accepted

I was trying to be 'Contemporary' - I thought that appropriate on a Rover 75 site ;)

As an aside, and a minor claim to fame, In the mid seventies I worked with Donna Murray, later Hartley, the Olympic athlete - I understand she later beacame a female bodybuilder . . .
