Latte = milk
Macchiato = marked

Milk "marked" with an espresso. Definitely good when you fancy a milky drink
In UK coffee shops - and increasingly little cafes - it's just abbreviated to "latte", 'cos of US TV programs. Then people go to Italy, go into a bar & ask for a "latte". Then they get cross when presented with a glass of cold milk
