I have a compaq laptop the power input was accidently reversed - and + reversed does this mean the laptop is kaput or can it be repaired ??. No power light on nothing.

With luck you will merely have popped an internal power supply fuse.

It will be near the power input circuitry when you open the laptop case :)

Have opened it but cannot find fuse near input socket any other suggestions

What is the make and model? if a presario 1693 they dont have one, i did the same thing (rev polarity) and the ac/dc subboard was fried. this is what i was told by a compaq repairs

Take the battery out from the laptop and check the fuse in the plug end of the charger, connect the charger with the battery taken out from the laptop and power on.

............ it might work. :D
