Joining the V6 Club by JakeWilson

Af'noon all,

Following various telephone calls over the past 24hrs, I am soon to be the owner of an 04 Plate Facelift Trophy Blue 190.

The engine is suffering from a heavy top end oil leak, and as it's done 70k odd miles on it's original clutch, we've decided to remove the engine and gear box and do a full overhaul.

As I am new to V6's - what things should/need to be done, as whilst the whole lots being worked on, I don't want to miss anything.

Thanks in advance,

Jake

Check VIS (Variable Intake System) actuator motors, you can borrow a tester from Raisltin, although I have it somewhere in the useless information department that it may be with Zeb or on it's way. With VIS actuators removed , check butterflies operate smoothly
Thermostat between the V's check for red staining if it has weeped.
Check water pump.
Belts you already have in hand.Cooling fan, should be two speed on that one, if so fit Jules uprated resistor duberry.

Must be more than that but my brain hurts. :)

Thanks for those pointers Mick! Finding the source of the oil leak is going to be priority one I think, with changing the belts as number two. :-)

Couple more things.
Clean inlet manifold.
Clean throttle body.

Carb cleaner will do the job nicely.

That is a nice car you've got there.
I saw it last year when Dave was about to get stitched up by his local dealer.
Did a quick code read to prove that they were spinning a line.
A shame that Dave is quitting, he is a real enthusiast for the brand.
I don't like signatures, they take up too much screen space.

Sorry I hadn't replied to you sooner Bernard - first chance I have had to get online. :gmc:

I've not seen the car, nor its history yet - did Dave have problems with the garage and do you know if it's the same one that put an engine in the car? From what I've been told, it's a lovely looking motor - I've always wanted a 190 since going in Carls years ago!

I only know about the nonsense that I was involved in.
Read all about it here

Thanks for the link Bernard - the garage in question - Hogans, are the garage who the car has been into most recently, and they've installed the engine that's now gone wrong if I remember correctly.

The fact they've managed to forget to refit the airbox and cambelt cover too is another matter!

The car has just been collected by the transport company (Thanks Shiply!) And is expected to arrive tomorrow.

My friend is spending the day at mine waiting for the car.

Excited? - Just a smidge! Just got to find the parts now!
