Unusual letters on dash in gearbox mode indicator on dash instead of ( D N R P ) there was 'EP'.
Any idea why . Also car was sluggish and wouldn't go into top gear. Steve

Solenoids or might need fluid change at least. However could also be a loose connection.

Fluid replaced earlier this year Could it be insufficient oil in box?

More than likely a loose connection. Someone else with more knowledge might be along shortly to help.

EP means emergency program. Many possible reasons I'm afraid. However as Mike says its worth checking connections. One possibility is the CAN (Bus Controller Area Network) bus connection. If the CAN communication to and from the gearbox isn't working then the IPK (Instrument pack (IPK from the German)) displays EP and the gearbox operates in 'limp home' mode. If you could get it to someone with a T4 (Testbook version 4.Computer Diagnostic System) you would probably get some clues quicker.
