In keeping with the current spell of icy weather here's another tale of frozen woe
PC's don't like the cold. It's a fairly well known fact but when a PC is running continuously 24/7 one might hope the residue heat from it's components might prevent it from packing up. Alas not - the server that runs our shops tills decided enough was enough. In a display of protest against the weekends bitterly cold nights and days firstly the mouse stopped responding shortly followed by the keyboard. A restart proved too much and although the fans were humming, no one was at home
This of course resulted in non-working tills as they then had no server through which to operate. After many attempts to resuscitate said server (even putting it on top of a heater!) we gave up.
3 hours later mental arithmetic and duplicate books are the order of the day whilst our network suppliers build us a new server and try to remotely setup a redundant unit as our operational server.
Just what you need in the run up to Christmas
