Heroes and cowards by PaulT

In one of Saturdays’ papers was a little piece about a 25 year old waitress on the Costa Concordia who took off her life jacket and gave it to an elderly passenger.

The passenger survived. Sadly, the waitress drowned.

I wonder if, when she was drowning, the captain was snugly tucked up in his bed in his hotel room that he had taken a taxi ride to?

I hadn't heard that story Paul, truly moving and I hope that the Waitress is appropriately honoured (posthumously) for having made such a sacrifice, especially as you say, the Captain could not have acted more in the opposite way!

It was easy to miss, tucked away on a page, just a few lines - I felt it deserved far more, especially as the waitress was a victim of the captains actions
