Think of a flick knife with the blade in the handle, you press a button and the blade flips out through 180 deg.

Same with the flip key ;)

It's just one of these - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-mini-coop ... 3a80e24c09 where you do a straight swap for the internals, and of course, find a badge to fit......

Cheers,

Fitting ot don't look to hard, its connecting the lead to the reverse lamp that'll get me, its always the electrical that gets me nervous.

You need to be careful making a hole in the boot lid for the cable assembly Andy. Beware of the numberplate light PCB (Printed Circuit Board) tracks :)

If you use an ignition controlled supply instead of the reversing lamp you can use the rear view camera whenever you need to.

Well that didn’t work,

Fitted the camera and got the cable through the boot grommet.

Connected the camera lead to the camera in lead hanging out the back if the TV saying camera in.

Connected the power leads to a spare battery and couldn’t get anything on the display.

I checked the AV connection joint in the boot and that was pushed in tight, I put some tape around it just to make sure.

I do have a digital TV setup but I tried all the settings I could on the TV but couldn’t get any picture.

So either I doing something stupid ( it has been know)
The camera is faulty ( how can I test this )
The AV connection in to the TV unit is not working.

I think I might have to bite the bullet and take it along to my local car AV installer.

It would be nice if I could just plug something in and it works 1st time without mucking me about 

Did you go into the setup procedure on your HU Andy? It might be that you have to tell it there is a camera. I know you have to do that on the Pioneer kit.

Do you have a TV in the house which accepts video camera input?

Or does anybody near you have a video camera you could plug in?

Bizarrely, having transferred the gubbins from my standard keys to the flip keys I got from fleabay, they both now seem to have an extended range, not measured but noticeably greater than when in OEM form.

Oh well,

I'm pleased I kept my OEM keys.

Not impressed with the flip key. Neither the quality or the convenience are, in my view, worth the bother. In addition, the key blade release button is way too easy to trigger accidentally when the key is in a pocket.

Purely my own observations

I also have two, flip, keys I have had two cut but only converted the one.It works fine in the doors but due to the shape of the plastic mouldings is difficult to use in the ignition so I only intend to keep,it as,a spare
