It's a saddle tank, fuel pump is on the opposite side. It will only be immersed if it is more than approx. 75% full. Just make sure you have plenty of ventilation when you open the cover.

And make sure you put it back the right way round BBM. When the garage did mine (under warranty) they replaced it incorrectly - twice - resulting in petrol pouring all over the garage forecourt when I filled up. Twice!!

Oh and also make sure you don't catch and damage any of the O-rings as this can cause the pump not to be able to draw out of the off-side tank, again giving symptoms of FFS.

The tank port seals are marked 'This way down', which means that side goes in first. The seal should be carefully placed around the white flange on the port and the filter module replaced vertically onto it. There is a positioning lug to accommodate so ensure it's lined up correctly. When seated properly, the metal ring clamp will screw down easily by hand. If it needs standing on to compress the seal, it's all fitted wrong. Tap the ring seal to tighten or use a home made gizmo that you can torque up correctly. I forget the torque, but it's in Haynes.

To orange clip or not to orange clip, that is the question, just had the filter out and it's already clipped up, looks like the Pump is the culprit.

I believe petrol fuel pumps are interchangeable., as are the fuel filters. VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) dependant.
