Engine disabled by Fille

Fille
Got a new error message in the message center today which I haven't seen before: Engine disabled. And yes, the engine is disabled. It cranked maybe half a turn on the starter, then it stopped and the message center litup with the abovementioned message.

Now I hope that this is just a safety precaution if the battery voltage is too low? I measured it to 11,8 V after I tried to start it. It is now being charged and I connected the engine pre-heater as well -should ahve done that before I tried to start of course! We had -22 degrees here this morning. Now a mere -15...

It's not a feature of the system, but could well be a symptom of low battery.

It will happen if the engine doesn't receive the correct release communication from the immobiliser, though I'm not sure if this is the message you get.

When a battery has low charge, it's easier to make it freeze. When it freezes, the output is reduced. So when you try to start the car, and take a lot of power, the voltage can drop quite badly. So it could be that as the engine started to turn over, the voltage dropped so much that the system communications stopped working.

Yep, the battery was a bit discharged and after a couple of hours on the charhger it started OK. I might have to get a new battery soon... The one in the car was fitted on the line at Longbridge in August 2001!
