I have been doing some research on the function of the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve) as a result I am going to keep the EGR and not fit a bypass. I think that if BMW/MGR thought it was needed who am I to say otherwise? Also there is the question of Nox emissions, it may only be a matter of time before this is tested under the MoT. I still not have found an answer as to where does the oily sludge that you find in an EGR valve find itself? It is in the intercooler hose so I seems logical that it must also be in the intercooler.

I understand that the deposits are caused by an incorrect mixture of fuel and air in the combustion chamber. How is this resolved which should lead to a reduction of the oily sludge?

Short journeys are one cause, will fitting a new Bosch MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensor) help?

Thanks

Mike
