Went out to the freezer this afternoon and heard a low, tired sounding buzzing.

Looked on the window and saw the monster below!

Apologies to anyone of a sensitive nature, but it had to go.... No easy feat mind, as I got a bit of cardboard and pressed so hard on the glass that it was in danger of dropping out - and still the little (sorry, big) beggar wasn't squished. Even after a few goes with a piece of wood it didn't crush.

Thinking it might have been a Queen Wasp, as we had a wasp nest in the garage last year?

(NB 10p piece to show scale!)

Looks like a hornet, to me. Didn't think we got them here.

Ouch!

Edit: yes we do have them but only the lower half of Britain.

Err, no. The South is somewhere between the lower eighth and quarter. The best middle bit is known as THE MIDLANDS, with some Northern stuff going on as well.

Sorry, you are getting confused - there is the southern south and the northern south, collectively known as the 'South', and the southern north and the northern north, collectively known as the 'North'. The Midlands is an archaic term, not to be confused with 'Middle England' which was bled dry and banned by one G Brown Esq, an invader from the northern north.
