Declaring SORN by PaulT

We normally declare SORN on my wifes car three times a year. Previously, fill in the form, enclose the tax disc on the last day of the month and off to the Post Office to get it in the post and then the refund includes the next month.

The system is now computerised. Enter the 11 character code from the V5 and the registration number and click next. So there are the vehicle details and, considering we have done this on 31 December it shows:

SORN START DATE: 1st December 2014

So on the phone to a lass in Swansea. Explained that we were trying to declare SORN so as to get a refund including January and need to do it in December but it shows start December?????

Wonder if this is another money making ruse - You should not declare SORN until
after the month in which you take the vehicle off of the road and thereby lose a months refund!

A little update....

Yve has received her cheque and it includes a refund for December.

Therefore, the bad publicity about when you sell a car you have to claim a refund which assumed, for example you sold it today - 13th January - and claimed a refund under the old system you would not be refunded for January. If it follows the new SORN rules you will get a refund for January. The new owner will pay for January.

I think the SORN rules have changed recently?:

Perhaps hidden with all of the bad press regarding selling a vehicle mid month?
