Burning oil smell by rovernut

I have had a smell of burning oil come through when stopped at a junction after a fast run. This has been going on for some time without any probs. It takes a pint of oil every 2000miles I guess but nothing worrying. No real evidence of leaking on the drive.

Is this a known leak or is it turbo related?

Any pointers?

Thanks

Chris

Hmmm a burning oil smell would indicate that oil is being burnt... :)

That's what worries me.

I'd hate people to think I could only afford to run a diesel :)

Its bad enough having the piston slap sound which is almost as noisy as a CDT

xx

ps See you at Cheshire Meet through the fumes.

I had a car that did this once, after a "spirited run" ;) the exhaust temp increased along its length, in effect it got hotter further back. Deposits of oil on the exhaust further back only began to burn off when the exhaust was hotter further back :).

Worth a check

Thanks Dave I'll have a look underneath when it gets warmer!

I just wondered if it was turbo related and if others had had the fumes on their 1.8T K

Not only can you afford to run a petrol engined car rather than an oil burning diesel. But you run one thats uses both fuels at the same time by the sound of it.. heh heh..

If oil is burning, use a torch under the bonnet to search for smoke. ;) :)
