Is anybody on here prescribed Exenatide (Byetta) please?

My GP is pointing me in that direction and I was wanting to get some opinions from those who use it, or know somebody who does so :)

I'm a bit alarmed at having to go onto injectable medication :(

I need to make a decision before I next see my GP on Monday afternoon so any views welcome - thanks.

This is a relatively new drug for treatment for Type 2 Diabetes, Type 1 of course uses Insulin Injections.

Type 2 Diabetes is normally controlled by either diet alone (watching Carbohydrates etc) or diet and tablets such as Metformin which together with blood tests can keep the condition under control.
If indeed this is what you have been prescribed the drug for Paul?

Do not know of anyone currently on this drug but manufacturers web site may help?

I would discuss this with the Diabetic specialist at your hospital/clinic to find why they also think this is the best course of treatment.

DVLA and Insurance would require notification and you switch to a three yearly renewalable licence after a medical checkup and report.

Thanks John :)

I've been diabetic for many years :)

Just trying to find out what 'real world' users of the drug think of it.

I appreciate your help though mate - Thanks :)

A few bits I don't understand with the drug as it must depend on how well your Pancreas is producing Insulin and as this can be an unknown quantity with type 2 have not come across an "intelligent" drug that could work this out without extra blood tests etc?

If it is more for the associated high blood pressure there are several drugs that are known to control this very well.

I'm off to earn a living shortly but you are welcome to contact me by PM if you would like.

Thanks John.

I'm at the maximum dose of Metformin and Vildagliptin at the moment with HbA1C at 9.8 so it's one of the incretin mimetic agents (Liraglutide or Exenatide) or it's insulin :(

9.8 is quite high, although Insulin sounds frightful with the injections and blood tests etc, you can keep far better control over the sugar levels, correct balance against input of food, giving you much better HbA1C results more around the 6 mark or less now.

Insulin Pens are much less painful if at all against the old syringe methods etc of years gone by.
