I was in Court this morning, conducting a trial and we had a bunch of final year law students in the public gallery observing.
I immediately recognized one of them but couldn't recall who she was or where I'd seen her before.
We invited the students into the retiring room for a question and answer session after Court rose for the morning and I mentioned that I recognized her from somewhere.
"I was hoping you would remember me Sir" she said. "You sent me into youth custody eight years ago for robbery, ABH and assaulting a PC."
"The things you said to me during the sentencing were so perceptive as to really hit home and hurt. That day I cursed you but some of the things you said stayed with me and, over time, formed a part of a resolve to get my finger out and become all that I could be."
She has already done enough for good 2:1 and is contemplating a first, and intends to become a barrister.
She refused to tell me what it was that I'd said.
