I was sitting in the well of the Court today assessing a new District Judge.
She was doing well until an out of town solicitor started trying to give her a hard time, having spotted me and realising that she was a neophyte. He was being, quite frankly, offensive and outrageous to see if he could bait the DJ.
However, after one particularly ridiculous rant she silenced him thus:-
"Mr. ****, it seems to me that in today's society, intolerance, ill-grace, and a penchant for jumping to erroneous conclusions based upon little or no evidence are becoming the norm."
Then, with masterly timing, continued:-
"Far be it from me to consider you in any way abnormal."
It took him a moment to realise that he'd just been given a good slapping but it had a remarkable effect on his attitude
