Checking the logs shows the server was unavailable early hours of the morning. When it came back up MYSQL ran database repairs which showed up a bug in phbb, wherein, if phbb cannot connect to MYSQL server it changes the machine from "localhost" to 127.0.0.1. A manual intervention was required. Restart script has now been altered to prevent Apache starting before MYSQL has completed it's checks and repairs. That was the first time this has happened on our server so we were not adequately prepared.
We are also looking into convincing MYSQL to accept both names and or convincing phbb not to change names.

You have to watch them Apaches you know. Them arrows can make a right old mess of yer server.
