this is the first time i have looked at the site and whilst browsing round, the first 2 posts I happened to go to where one with a dead body of motorcylist stuck in the back of a lorry and another of a fatal car and motorbike crash... neither or which had any warnings.

I thought this would be the "mellow" (as everyone calls it) place to discuss my zt amonst fellow enthuisiasts, but I am now stuck with the image of that dead man in my head.

Now everyone knows i like a bit of banter and am very open but, not a really good first impression of the site i think.

Hadn't really thought of it like that but if has affected you then perhaps it will others. Not the most pleasant of threads but that's bikers for you. Most of the ones I know have some pretty gruesome tales to tell.

Good point, maybe the mods could make a more discrete place for more erm extreme stuff so that doesn't show up on the opening page? Like someone elses forum eh? :D

I've seen a lot worse but I think Kierans concerns are valid. Maybe there should be a thread in the bikers forum for things like that named ' Warning - Contains explicit pictures'.

...and I'm not talking about the back of my wardrobe! ;)

I expect this counts as teething troubles in a new forum. :)

Definitely a point worth considering.

For myself, I find it saddening that I have become inured to such things.

Rather than being shocked, I found myself trying to understand the forces, velocities, accelerations involved in the thread I saw, along with the possible offence(s) which might be considered.

:iagree: Was more or less my reaction too. Kind of removed the human element of it....

I understand the point made, and am surprised I wasn't shocked I suppose.

I'm not sure moving the thread is the right move though. I think we are all adult enough to choose, given a warning. I think the problem here was that there was no warning.

Please understand, it's not that I feel I want to look at this kind of thing, just that it feels like censorship, if you see what I mean.

carnt see the problem with it ..... lets face it , its just real life , these things happen . maybe there should be a warning of a shocking picture , but theres nothing wrong with it being in that thread . think we should have these pictures on bill boards , it may make people think a little more !!!! if thats all he had to moan about ,well its not a bad thing is it. ;)

Unfortunately, research, both in the UK and elsewhere, has shown that such graphic illustrations have a very limited, not to say short term effect :(

By far the most effective method is the accident role-playing scenario such as the emergency services produce for schools and colleges. The main disadvantage being the cost, both financially and in time.

Probably, without trying to second guess Mick, it was a short term and immediate response Duncan. As the forum evolves, perhaps consideration might be given to a location where such threads can be raised with adequate safeguards.

Difficult to decide exactly how to handle this sort of thing. On the one hand we have those that are not phased at all by graphic strawberry jam pics. On the other there may be some among us that are. I think in deference to those that may be be upset, for the moment I have just moved one thread out of the way. I'm happy not to see any more as I have already stated in my post in the bike forum. If there is a clamour for somewhere to post gory pics then I'll think again. The bike forum has a fairly limited appeal, to make a further sub forum at this time would seem a bit silly.
Perhaps linking to a source picture using the URL tags would be more appropriate with the poster warning about the content , rather than using the IMG tags to display the pictures within a post.
Let's see how it goes for the time being.
