BCU problem? by Bernard

Started to sort the newly acquired 'S' reg car today, been waiting for a new battery which got lost, but that's another story.

I have some strange intermittent failure of some functions, for example, the Hi-line will go on and off, the turn indicator tell-tales don't work, the climate control errors out and the central locking will only unlock and not lock.

Then suddenly all will function correctly for a short time.
It did appear that a bump on the glovebox would toggle the fault but that may have been coincidence.

I've checked the earth points in the passenger footwell but now I'm thinking that it may be the BCU (Body Control Unit), YWC112330.

Does anyone have one that I can borrow for elimination purposes?
Or a better idea to try next?

Have you tried re-seating the BCU connectors Bernard? May sound a forlorn hope but I've known it cure many faults.

I have a spare BCU but not sure of the model number. I can bring it along to Four Ashes over the weekend.

Yes, tried that as it would have been a classic fix.
I guess that almost any type will do to eliminate it.

Had an hour to spare today on this. I was just about to try Paul's BCU when I thought that I would disconnect the sat-nav unit as it appears to be faulty. In trying to remove the unit I disconnected the parking sensor module.

Since this disconnection the fault has not yet returned.

As the fault is intermittent, I haven't proven anything yet but it looks promising.
I haven't checked the wiring diagrams yet but I assume the parking sensor unit is on the k-bus, maybe?

Yes, it's on Kbus.

And as I said over the weekend, it does sound like a Kbus fault. So that sounds like a lucky find!

It may not be the unit itself, but power or ground connections to it could be causing trouble.

Funny how I never found this thread when I searched,

The faults mention above are the same faults as I have posted in this thread
viewtopic.php?t=7399

Looks like I'll try disconnecting the parking sensor unit tomorrow.

Bernard any updates on this ?

No. Tried a lot of disconnects and never found anything positive. Car sold in desperation.

Not the answer I wanted to hear.

Did the disconnection of the parking ecu stop the fault while it was disconnected ?

What else did you try ?

Thanks

Sorry Andy, only just found that I hadn't replied. We are in Spain for a month and I don't access the internet all the time.

The short answer is 'no' but everything I tried appeared to make the interval of fault free time a bit longer. I'm sure that there is another thread somewhere listing the other actions that I carried out including the actual problems found and corrected - all to no avail. I could not work out how to test the immobiliser connection and have since wondered if it could have been the seat memory module as the K-bus goes there too and it can be a damp area. Those were the only two K-bus connections not eliminated as far as I know.
